Kate Nielsen’s academic and professional background is varied: She majored in women’s studies and international relations at Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts, and she worked in social work for nearly a decade before she transitioned into a web development-focused career.
In addition to mentoring for Kansas City Women in Technology’s Coding & Cocktails, Nielsen serves as a board member for the Waldo Area Business association, and she also is active in Athena League and as an ambassador for the Mid-America Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce.
Michael began his SEO career in 1997, while working with clients of his first company which provided networking services to small businesses. A couple of his clients posed the question “What is the internet and how do I get my business on it?” To which Mike responded, “I don’t know, but I’ll figure it out.” Soon after the same clients began asking how to get customers to their new sites. Mike again responded, “I don’t know, but I’ll figure it out.” Since his initial foray into website development and optimization, Mike has optimized thousands of websites for hundreds of clients.
Kristin Falkner is a WordPress developer who has been building websites since she was only a teenager, getting her first paid website gig at the age of 16. Her work shifted to a WordPress-based focus when she noticed the growing trend of clients wanting an end product they could update themselves without being reliant on a developer to do so. Currently, a majority of her work revolves around building completely custom WordPress themes for clients and she’s had the privilege of working on WordPress-based projects for TOMS, Urban Decay, United Talent Agency, Toyota and more.
